Activites to build interest and skills:
Math Focus
Learning math is important because it helps students think, solve problems, and make good decisions. It teaches them how to look at challenges in a logical way and find solutions. As the world changes and new jobs are created, strong math skills will help students succeed and stay ready for the future. Practice, practice, and more pratice!
Science Projects
Science is the future because it helps us understand how the world works and how to solve real-world problems. It encourages curiosity, exploration, and discovery—skills that lead to new ideas, technologies, and solutions. Activities include Environmental Habits, Chemical Reaction, Earth Science, Physics and Forces, Materials and Matter, and more!

What's in the name?
Why the 3-8 (Third- Eight) name?
A local Seattle icon named Mr. Phil Smart Jr (1943-2015) was born during the American Great Depression. Later in life, he became a successful business owner and did philanthropy work by speaking at local business meetings. His main question was, "What's your third-eight?" To people's surprise, they didn't know what a "third-eight" is. He would explain, "No matter how rich or poor you are, or how young or old you are, EVERYONE has only 24 hours in a day. If you are sleeping eight hours, working eight hours, what are you doing with your third eight hours?" To his point, don't waste time. Get busy.
The story has been an inspriation to our 3-8 Project. Our young people have more time now than they will ever have as they get older. We can direct their attention toward interest and skill building, allowing them to learn as much as possible now! The world is moving and changing fast. Our children need more time to focus than ever before.
